The Children's Home of Reading Youth & Family Services, located at 1010 Centre Ave, Reading, PA, is seeking Full-Time Youth Care Workers to cover our 2nd Shift (2PM-10PM) & 3rd Shift (10PM-6AM)

Position Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 Years of Age
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and clean driving record
  • Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in social work, criminal justice, psychology, or any Human Services field (preferred)
  • Any equivalent to at least 2 years of college level course work or 60 college credits in a social/human service field OR
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development Certificate with at least 2 years’ experience working with youth.
  • Required to work on weekends as scheduled by supervisor.
  • Must past all pre-employment physical & drug screening include background clearances (Child, Criminal, FBI, and DMV)
  • Ability to demonstrate basic oral, written, and verbal communication.
  • Must attend all required trainings followed by shadowing prior to working on the unit.
  • Ability to work effectively among various levels of behaviors and maintain an atmosphere of safety, support, and guidance to ensure a positive environment.

Physical Demands for all Youth Care Workers

The employee must have the physical ability to restrain a resident, if needed, while utilizing the tenets of Safe Crisis Management training.

  • Provide supervision, guidance, boundaries, and directions to our residents.
  • Demonstrate a variety of support, communication, & compliance with CHOR's Sanctuary principles.
  • Assisting with the planning and supervising of programmed activities.
  • Maintain safety & security of residents and facility at all times.
  • Committed to young people & the ability to act with integrity in times of stress.
  • Demonstrate patience, tolerance and flexibility.
