Security Specialist - System
Scope
The Security Specialist promotes a secure and safe environment for all students, employees, and visitors, helping Christian Academy live up to our biblical mandate:

you in charge of these people—God’s people they are—to guard and protect them.” Acts 20:28 (The Message)
The Security Specialist also helps ensure compliance with local, state (primarily Kentucky), and federal laws and regulations pertaining to K-12 school security and safety operations. The Specialist also helps build positive, supportive relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. The Specialist also provides leadership, training, coaching, and technical guidance. The Specialist will use an all-hazards approach to mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. The Specialist will create strategies to help safeguard human life and school assets. This position will require working occasional evenings and weekends, as well as (in rare cases) holidays as needed to respond to emergencies within a reasonable time.
Qualifications
The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect:
- A strong and clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit.
- A daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school.
- A commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Christian Academy School System Statement of Faith.
- Agreement and belief that The Bible is the final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind.
The ideal candidate shall possess:
- 3 years of experience in law enforcement and/or emergency management required.
- A demonstrable understanding of how to integrate security and safety needs with the mission, vision, and strategic objectives of an organization.
- A proven record of communicating, interacting, and working effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse racial, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.
- Experience planning and delivering training to all audiences (small groups, large groups, and all demographics including students through adults).
- Proven experience in a service-oriented culture.
- Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
- Conduct timely, thorough investigations into matters that may adversely impact the security and safety of students, employees, and visitors.
- Maintain accurate records of all emergency training and participants.
- Complete after-action reports following emergency exercises and actual emergencies.
- Maintain security-related drill schedules for all campuses.
- Participate in the design, coordination, and implementation of regularly scheduled emergency training activities, including tabletop, functional, and full-scale exercises.
- Participate in security and safety for special and high-risk events.
- Implement security/safety standards, policies, and practices with ongoing evaluation and data collection to ensure the relevance and effectiveness of all programs.
- Continue to form and manage relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement and other first responder agencies as well as private sector counterparts.
- Implement the threat assessment process; ensure the threat assessment program is administered in a consistent manner from school to school.
- Help develop appropriate opportunities for parent involvement (such as Watch D.O.G.S. Dads).
- Help develop programs to prevent and/or detect physical, emotional, verbal, or sexual abuse.
- Oversee distribution/inventory of emergency supplies, including classroom and school go-kits.
- Consult on design, construction, and renovation of brick-and-mortar facilities.
- Assist visitors and check for visitor (Raptor) passes. Escort unauthorized visitors off campus.
- Operate, demonstrate, and provide instruction on a variety of small arms (handguns and rifles).

- Ability to work with large groups of students, including students with special needs.
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations to diverse small/large audiences.
- Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs.
- Ability to find an answer when it is not immediately obvious.
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
- Ability to safely operate a variety of small arms (handguns and rifles).
Additional Requirements
- Earn ALICE Instructor and Red Cross Instructor certifications within the first 60 days of employment.
- Complete ICS 100, ICS 200, and NIMS 700 certifications within the first 90 days of employment.
- Demonstrate proficiency with our security camera systems within 10 days of entering the position.
