Overview
Under the direct supervision of the Cultural Director, the Language Teacher is responsible for learning and teaching the Samala Chumash language, history, and culture to tribal citizens and public education.
Responsibilities
• Responsible for teaching, developing, and planning language and cultural material and programs.• Prepares lesson plans and coursework that meets curriculum requirements and learning objectives.• Evaluates classroom performance and provides feedback to the Cultural Director.• Responsible for learning and passing Samala language and culture modules.• Participates in community events, such as workshops and special events.• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• High School diploma or GED certificate.• Proficient in computers, including Microsoft Office applications, email, and internet.• Organizational and time-management skills.• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.• Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated patience and tact.• Able to handle multiple projects concurrently and effectively balance priorities.• Basic project management skills.• Exceptional detail and follow-up skills.• Native American hiring preference applies.
