To learn more about CIBC, please visit CIBC.com Job Description Fiduciary and Tax Services provides required tax reporting to various tax authorities and clients for Agency, IRA and trust accounts. JOB PURPOSE The Tax Associate supports the Tax Director in day to day tax reporting activities, responds to inquiries from CIBC colleagues and other matters necessary for CIBC to fulfil its duties as trustee and co-trustee of both revocable and irrevocable trusts. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Supporting the Tax Director. Process and remit tax payments to IRS and other tax authorities, including IRA withholding, NRA withholding, and estimated tax payments File hardcopy tax returns and tax payments with IRS and other tax authorities Working with tax vendors in the delivery of timely tax information and reporting Review tax letters/returns for accuracy that are prepared by outside tax vendor Communicating with tax vendor and CIBC constituents using phone, email and other devices Consultation with tax authorities and CIBC colleagues on tax matters Review and maintenance of tax specific transactions and records Tax research, analysis, and interpretation for purposes of compliance with laws and regulations Review of new accounts in trust accounting system for proper beneficiary, tax situs and tax filing types Assist with implementation of tax technology Other assignments as appropriate CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Professionalism, strong organizational and communication skills are needed in order to successfully build relationships with Outsourcing Tax Vendor and members of Senior Management, RM Professionals in the US and Canada, Client Service Teams, Enterprise Support and other members of the CIBC organization. The job interacts regularly with each of these for the purpose of providing and obtaining critical, confidential data. Discretion and professional judgment are paramount. COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls JOB DIMENSIONS The Tax Associate primarily supports the US Wealth Management business with offices throughout the United States, with periodic travel to offices. Minimal travel is required. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree required in accounting or finance; C.P.A., E.A., J.D. or Master Degree preferred. Prior work experience desired. OneSource Trust Tax Insight; EFTPS, Experience with SEI SWP or other trust accounting system In addition, working knowledge of Microsoft Office is necessary for the purpose of performing tasks, recording findings and communicating results.
