Purchasing Manager
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement process for steel and related materials, ensuring timely and cost-effective acquisitions while maintaining quality and supplier relationships. This role involves developing purchasing strategies, managing inventory, negotiating contracts, and resolving supplier issues.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the steel industry, excellent negotiation skills, and a proven track record of optimizing supply chain efficiency while maintaining high standards of quality and cost-effectiveness. This role is also responsible for all purchasing of consumables, tools, equipment, and services necessary for the fabrication process.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field.
- 5 years of proven experience as a purchasing manager in the steel fabrication industry.
- Knowledge of steel materials, manufacturing processes, and industry standards. Ability to read and analyze technical drawings.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards.
- Certification such as Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) is a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Source and evaluate potential suppliers of tools, equipment, and services required for production purposes.
- Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers to secure favorable pricing, quality, and delivery schedules.
- Conduct regular assessments of supplier performance, pricing, including quality, reliability, and responsiveness.
- Collaborate with internal departments, including accounting, production, engineering, and project management teams, to understand procurement needs and ensure timely delivery of materials and on-time payments to suppliers.
- Managing, coordinating and ensuring professional development of department.
- Manage inventory levels to support production schedules and minimize carrying costs while avoiding stockouts.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, fostering open communication and addressing any issues or concerns promptly.
- Monitor market trends and industry developments to identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and supplier diversification.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards governing procurement activities, including environmental, safety, and ethical sourcing practices.
- Track and analyze purchasing data to identify areas for optimization and cost reduction.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the procurement function and across the organization.
