Summary of Position:

We are seeking a reliable and compassionate individual to serve as a Facilities & Accessibility Assistant in our office building. In this dual role position, you will be responsible for maintaining clean and welcoming indoor and outdoor spaces, including manufacturing facilities, bathrooms, breakroom, patio, and exterior ground areas—while also providing respectful assistance to blind and visually impaired employees during breaks and lunch.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including sinks, stalls, urinals, floors, and mirrors. Restock supplies as needed.

  • Clean and maintain breakroom: wipe down tables, countertops, chairs, appliances, vending machines and remove trash.

  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and detail all hallways, entryways, and shared areas to keep floors spotless. Use the floor scrubber to clean production floors as needed.

  • Maintain exterior grounds: sweep sidewalks, pick up litter, and perform regular mowing and trimming of grass and shrubs.

  • Keep the exterior patio and break areas tidy, including sweeping, cleaning tables, and removing debris and trash.

  • Clean and maintain conference and huddle rooms daily, including wipe down tables and furniture, empty trash, and vacuum floors.

  • Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the designated areas, replace liners, and transport waste to proper disposal locations.

  • Replenish paper products, hand soap, and other consumables as needed. Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and notify supervisor for restocking.

  • Weekly “rounding” of the facility inside and outside. Inspect potential safety issues and communicate them to the Facilities Manager.

  • Follow all building health, safety, and accessibility protocols. Immediately report any maintenance concerns or safety hazards.

  • Assist blind and visually impaired employees during breaks and mealtimes:

    • Help guide employees safely to and from breakrooms, patios, and picnic areas as requested

    • Provide verbal descriptions of food arrangements, seating options, or facilities layout

    • Offer friendly assistance with locating items or navigating seating, respecting individual independence and preferences

  • Perform other tasks, duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Prior experience in janitorial or custodial work is preferred, especially in a manufacturing, industrial or high traffic environment.
  • Familiarity with cleaning chemicals and supplies and an understanding of safety procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Kindness, patience, and willingness to learn best practices in assisting people who are blind or visually impaired (training provided).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.
  • Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy.

Physical Demands:

  • Physical work that may involve lifting to 50 lbs. and frequent movement.
  • Ability to manage repetitive physical tasks (lifting, bending, kneeling, standing) for extended periods of time.

Work Environment:

  • Indoor, climate-controlled, offices and industrial distribution warehouse setting.
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, oil, cleaning fluids, and some industrial noise.
  • Exposure to blood and other hazardous materials require BBP (Bloodborne Pathogens) training and certification. Participate in CABVI bi-annual First Responder training.
  • Outdoor exposure to various weather conditions.
