Position Information: The Acute Care Nurse Manager provides clinical and administrative leadership for the hospital’s acute care unit. This role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered nursing care, while managing unit operations, staff performance, and compliance with clinical and regulatory standards. Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Nurse Manager will lead the planning, coordination, and evaluation of inpatient nursing services, serving as a mentor, advocate, and champion for continuous improvement in patient care and team development.
Days/Hours: This facility is staffed 365 days a years, 24 hours a day
Pay Range: Dependent upon degree and experience.
What you’ll do:
- Provide day-to-day leadership for the acute care unit, ensuring that nursing services are delivered according to best practices, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and support the clinical competence of nursing staff and address patient care concerns in real time.
- Oversee patient care delivery, safety initiatives, and infection prevention protocols.
- Recruit, hire, orient, and retain a skilled nursing team, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs.
- Conduct performance evaluations, manage schedules, and ensure adequate staffing to meet patient acuity and census levels.
- Promote a positive work environment that supports professional growth, staff engagement, and collaboration.
- Develop and implement departmental goals, workflows, and performance metrics aligned with hospital-wide objectives.
- Manage unit budgets, supply orders, and resource allocation in collaboration with finance and materials management teams.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable licensing, accreditation, and safety regulations (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, KDHE).
- Serve as a liaison between the nursing team, physicians, ancillary departments, and hospital leadership.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, hospital committees, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Communicate changes in policy, procedures, or priorities clearly and promptly to the care team.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
What you bring to the table:
Required:
- Current RN Licensure by the Kansas Board of Nursing
- Current BLS, TNCC, PALS, NRP and ACLS preferred, will assist in obtaining active certification.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience, including prior leadership or charge nurse responsibilities in an acute or inpatient setting.
- Proven ability to lead and develop nursing teams in a hospital environment.
- Excellent critical thinking, decision-making, and communication skills.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN); Master’s in Nursing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Prior experience managing a rural acute care or med-surg unit.
- Certification in Nursing Leadership (e.g., CNML) or willingness to obtain.
