Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) is recruiting a Nurse Assistant/ Certified Nursing Assistant to help care for our geriatric behavioral health patients.
Parkview Geriatric Wellness (PVGW) is a geriatric behavioral unit licensed for 20 bed, currently serving the community with 15 beds. Our patient population is 50 years of age and older. We are located inside the main hospital and work closely with the other departments in the hospital. Parkview Wellness see a wide range of mental health patients, including dementia, bipolar, schizophrenia, personality disorders and depression. Parkview is a short term placement, most patient's length of stay is 7 days. Parkview Wellness is a specialty unit and trains staff in the art of de-escalation. Staff will also be trained in proper safety holds. We are focused on safety in the Wellness unit, our nursing staff ratio is 1:8 with one core tech on both sides of the unit and a float teach, who helps both sides of the unit.
A typical day as a mental health tech on the Wellness unit starts with ensuring that our patients are safe. Safety is our number one priority on the unit. Techs will help patients with daily ADL’s which includes showers, grooming, dressing, feeding, walking, toileting and anything else that the patient may need extra support with. We have multiple daily groups lead by a recreational therapist, mental health techs are encouraged to help patients participate in groups. Mental health techs have other duties on the unit including making beds, passing meal trays, cleaning up day area and patients after meals, obtaining vitals and 15 minute checks on every patient.
