This classification performs frontline supervisory and operational oversight within the Transit Department. Responsible for coordinating daily service operations, supervising transit operators, and responding to service disruptions and safety incidents.
Trains new operators; makes daily assignments of vehicles to the routes; provides safety information for operators.
Receives and resolves complaints regarding service; addresses safety, efficiency, and reliability of service issues.
Reports all accidents and incidents involving Transit buses; retrieves the hard drives of onboard surveillance equipment and forwards them to management.
Receives and prepares required paperwork: reviews daily run sheets, assignment sheets, schedules, and bus availability reports.
Participates in the daily count of fares and cash received by the Transit Department.
Operates transit buses, ADA vans, and wreckers, provides good customer service, and assists passengers in a courteous, responsible, and informative manner; remains situationally aware as to safety issues presented by passengers; maintains emotional intelligence in de-escalating issues with passengers, as needed; operates a personal computer and other office equipment.
On an assigned shift, supervises operators and ensures adequate coverage, safety, and control of bus routes; has opening or closing responsibilities for operations. Displays a thorough knowledge of the transit system and laws, ordinances, and regulations governing transit operations; responds promptly to accidents/incidents and reports to management.
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in transit operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Must possess and maintain a valid Class B commercial driver’s license with Air Brakes and Passenger endorsement. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class B commercial driver’s license with Air Brakes and Passenger endorsement at the time of appointment and maintain throughout employment.
