SUMMARY

Maintains and repairs property of the City such as streets, wastewater systems, pipelines, manholes, and other citywide areas as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Receives and follows written work orders or verbal instructions from Crew Leader I Crew Foreman.
• Assists in the maintenance of streets, water, wastewater systems, and other public property. Loads and unloads trucks.
• Operates motor vehicles.
• Lays pipeline and repairs manhole.
• Operates backhoe to dig trenches for water and sewer pipe.
• Picks up and delivers refuse such as but not limited to tree limbs to landfill through the operation of a truck.
• Repairs streets and sidewalks with asphalt, cold patching materials, and concrete. Reads water meters and records reading in a logbook.
• Maintains and repairs municipal buildings' plumbing and electrical systems, including replacing worn or defective parts such as switches and fuses.
• Replaces worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts, in machines and equipment such as trucks, street sweepers, and riding mowers.
• Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
• Performs other related duties as assigned and required.

The city reserves the right to allow substitutions if a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

One to three months of related experience and/or training

Special Certificates, Licenses, and Designations

Texas Class “C" Driver's License
