Hiring Range: $22.55 - $28.19
Salary range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
Responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of youth camps, programs, and teen activities. This role is crucial in creating a positive and engaging environment that promotes learning, creativity, and teamwork.
Specific duties may include: planning, organizing, and supervising the recreational activities offered by the City of Avondale; program and curriculum development; leading and facilitating programming sessions; maintaining a safe and secure environment for all participants; training and guiding staff members; evaluating program operations; assisting with and monitoring budget for the assigned program area; providing administrative support for the Parks and Recreation Department working with outside vendors, processing inquiries, and rentals. Creating promotion strategies to generate registrations and measuring results. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
Assists in the coordination, promotion, and implementation of recreational activities such as special events, instructional classes, sports activities, and adult and youth programs.
Participates in the selection, training, and motivation, of part-time employees.
Assists in budget preparation; prepares cost estimates for program budgets and long-range forecasting.
Coordinates program schedules and field reservations.
Maintains awareness of new developments in the recreation field, and incorporates as appropriate into programs.
Creates social media campaigns, updates website, flyers and email blasts to help market programs.
Works with Recreation Coordinator to purchase supplies and equipment for programs.
Supervises the distribution, care, use and maintenance of supplies and equipment for assigned programs.
Plans, implements, and coordinates a sponsorship program that will assist with supplementing program costs and connect with the community.
Minimum Qualifications
Associates degree or equivalency. Work requires broad knowledge in a general profession or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Public Administration or closely related field.
One (1) year of experience assisting in recreation, sports, supervision of staff, leisure class administration and/or special events. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word & Publisher).
Requires valid Arizona Driver's License. Background check. Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification upon hire. Bilingual skills highly desirable.

Work requires the ability to read correspondence (i.e. e-mails) from recreation office.
Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and percentages.
Work requires the ability to write simple instructions and guides.
Must be able to work with citizens, students, or participants in accordance with recreation polices and procedures.
Work requires functioning as a lead worker performing essentially the same work as those directed and includes overseeing work quality, training, instructing, and scheduling work. Within this job, the employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. The employee has some opportunity for discretion when making a selection among a few, easily identifiable choices. The assignment is usually reviewed upon completion. Employees must maintain regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
