LOCATION North Pointe Aquatic Center

JOB SUMMARY Responsible for safety, cleanliness and organization of The North Pointe Aquatic Center by enforcing rules and maintaining a clean environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Reports directly to the Aquatic Specialist/Head Lifeguard/Pool Manager/Concession Manager
• Managing cleanliness of the concession area by emptying garbage, wiping tables, sweeping pool deck
• Acts as a birthday party attendant by cleaning pavilion, setting up for parties, and providing the parties with their food/beverages
• Maintaining safe and proper usage of the lazy river including enforcing rules and regulations, organizing and handling lazy river equipment.
• Attends New Employee Meeting & Staff Orientation
• Notifies supervisors of hazardous areas and repairs needed in a timely manner.
• Is well groomed at all times. Wear city issued uniforms at all times while working and maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
• Continually practices quality customer service. This includes staff/customer interaction and cleanliness and the condition of North Pointe.
• Role model of the City of Ballwin Parks and Recreation policies, procedures, and mission statement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Must be able to lift 25 lbs. objects

• Maintain a professional and mature attitude toward responsibilities, fellow staff and patrons

• Work effectively with supervisors, co-workers and the public
• Must be available to work May 25, 2024 - September 2, 2024 including nights, weekends, and holidays

UNIFORM & EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM THE JOB:

Staff shirt and visor, swimsuit, khaki or dark-colored shorts, sunglasses, sunscreen, and appropriate footwear.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Must be a minimum of 14 years of age and cannot exceed 15 years of age
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
• Ability to develop and maintain a professional working relationship with parents and children involved with the programs.
• The perfect candidate must demonstrate a character that is conducive to the City of Ballwin Parks and Recreation mission statement.

The City of Ballwin Statement on Youth Employment (14 to 15 years old)

The City of Ballwin has created a trainee program for certain positions within the Parks and Recreation Department. This program was created to introduce youth to the workforce with the goal of helping them to learn proper employment skills. Trainee positions will be treated as a platform for recruiting youth to regular paying positions within the parks and recreation department. Trainee positions include North Pointe Attendant, Swim Lesson Instructor Trainee, and Counselor in Training. Regular paying positions include Lifeguard, Camp Counselor, Swim Instructor, Front Desk Employee, and Concession Stand Attendant. In accordance with state and federal wage and hour laws, The City Ballwin is exempt from paying the current state minimum wage so long as hourly wages are at least the current federal minimum wage. Trainee positions will be paid at a rate that is $2.00 less than the current state minimum wage or federal minimum wage, whichever is higher.

In accordance with state and federal laws regarding youth employment, the City of Ballwin will require a work certificate to be completed by the child's parents, school, and the City of Ballwin. In some cases, a child may be required to provide two certificates, one for the school year and one for summer break.

Children 14 to 15 years of age are permitted to work up to eight hours per day between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm during summer break. During the school year, children are permitted to work 3 hours per day between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.
