Recreation Program Supervisor
Summary
Performs difficult professional and responsible administrative work planning, organizing and directing activities and programs at multiple recreation centers and related facilities. Work is performed under general supervision by the Parks & Recreation Manager. Supervision is exercised over center and program personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Plans, organizes, and directs a variety of recreation programs, recreation center services, activities, staff, and independent contractors (instructors);
· Supervises participants utilizing recreation center, grounds and facilities; enforces center policies; maintains order;
· Plans, directs and supervises special events; coordinates with community and volunteers;
· Prepares related publicity, news bulletins and brochures for print and online social media platforms;
· Oversees and works with the Parks & Recreation Administrative Assistant and Facilities Supervisor for the rental and use of multiple recreation centers; coordinates reservations, bookings, and staff coverage for building and areas;
· Inspects all equipment for condition and safety;
· Oversees professionalism and appearance of facilities; Works with Facilities Supervisor regarding the maintenance of facilities
· Prepares and maintains appropriate files and records; monitors center budget; prepares reports;
· Performs related tasks as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Three (3) years’ experience in the supervision of recreation programs and staff; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities and other competencies necessary for the position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the operation of multiple recreation facilities;
Thorough knowledge of indoor and outdoor sports and recreation programs and related rules and regulations;
Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of recreational planning, the philosophy and objectives of public recreation and the psychology of special age groups;
· Ability to maintain discipline and to solve disciplinary problems effectively;
· Ability to arrange and coordinate schedules for classes;
· Ability to arrange and coordinate schedules for league and tournament play;
· Considerable knowledge in the preparation of marketing materials both in print and on social media platforms;
· Ability to mediate, troubleshoot, problem solve and diffuse potential difficulties;
· Ability to operate and maintain order in public facilities;
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, associates and the general public;
· Ability to achieve sponsorships and partnerships;
· Ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
Special Requirements:
Requires possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of Florida.
