Parks Maintenance Technician

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs semi-skilled landscaping, construction, maintenance, and repair tasks related to parks, trails, athletic fields, public open spaces and grounds development and maintenance, facilities, and structures. Other duties include mowing, trimming, picking up trash, inspecting playground equipment, and preparing for special events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Performs routine general and preventative maintenance, cleaning equipment, making repairs, and preparation of equipment, systems, and infrastructure
• Prepares and maintains athletic fields and park grounds and all associated amenities
• Painting fields
• Collecting trash and debris and mowing
• Installing park benches
• Trims trees and shrubs and performs basic landscape installation and maintenance
• Operates light equipment (saws, weed eaters, drills, edgers)
• Monitors and maintains playground and park structures
• Monitors and maintains inventory levels of equipment, supplies, and materials
• Performs building maintenance
• Assists in the preparation, operation, and take down of special events hosted by the City
• Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work
• Regular and timely attendance is required for this position
• Must report to work for duty outside normally scheduled work hours in response to natural disasters, emergencies, or critical incidents as determined by City Administration

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
• Experience or training in personal computer use with various software packages

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Valid Driver’s License
• Reliable transportation and liability insurance
• Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks:

  • Controlled substance screening
