What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grant Writer position at City of Bentonville?
SUMMARY The grant writer will pursue and write grants, specifically targeted on bike and pedestrian infrastructure, public safety and general infrastructure for the City of Bentonville. They will also work to write grants to assist with all city departments. This employee will solicit, write, and receive grants for the City of Bentonville. They will deliver presentations and provide necessary reporting and tracking of funding. This position is funded through a grant and metrics are put in place that must be met to fulfill the job requirements of securing and executing grants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in monitoring the fiscal management of grant funds, monitors performance for compliance with grant objectives and prepares grant applications.
- Assist in monitoring internal and external grant processes to ensure the appropriate allocation of grant funds by reviewing contracts, and reimbursement requests.
- Provides a variety of internal and external reports containing financial information.
- Submits financial and narrative reports, or other requirements to grant originator that complies with grant terms.
- Conducts training to instruct grant recipients as to grant objectives, requirements, performance regulations and other grant related information.
- Serves as a liaison between the City and grant providers; seeks out and develops contacts with key individuals.
- Conducts periodic and regular monitoring reviews of grants files for compliance with grant requirements.
- Reviews grant files to provide responses for information requests.
- Conducts research, analyzes data, and compiles written and statistical reports as requested.
- Provides assistance in resolving issues and conflicts with funding agencies.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned. include the following. Reporting relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position. Other duties may be assigned.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identifies needs for changes in grant fund allotments and prepares requests for grant providers.
- Assist in writing grant applications for submission in accordance with grant requirement to the funding source.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or related field required and three years of experience related to grants administration or coordination and grants writing.
Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
Must be proficient in the use of a computer and other related software programs such as word processing and presentation software and be highly proficient in spreadsheet applications. Must have a basic knowledge of financial software applications and possess the ability to learn to navigate in the City of Bentonville’s financial software application in a timely manner. Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
