What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parking Enforcement Representative PT position at City of Boca Raton?
Performs a variety of routine law enforcement and public contact work in enforcing codes and ordinances governing parking and assisting the public by providing information about parking locations and regulations.
- Monitors the flow of vehicles in timed parking areas and no parking areas; issues citations for parking violations such as overtime parking, illegal parking in handicap, truck, bus and fire hydrant zones, double- parking, parking on the wrong side of the street, expired paid parking areas, and related violations;
- Observes the licensing of parked vehicles, and issues citations to improperly licensed vehicles, such as vehicles with expired license plate registrations;
- Monitors and enforces the responsibility of construction sites to provide and maintain safe walk areas for pedestrians;
- Reports and monitors dangerous road and sidewalk conditions; monitors traffic signals and signs; and reports any malfunctions;
- Identifies and records information on possible abandoned or stolen vehicles, and reports same to proper authorities;
- Monitors safety of children, pets and parked cars in assigned enforcement area;
- Assists citizens with such matters as locked or stalled vehicles, traffic safety, traffic direction, etc;
- Operates a hand-held computerized system to check registrations, report stolen vehicles, request assistance in emergency situations and relay information regarding work situations and suspicious activity;
- Answers a variety of questions from the public regarding parking regulations, parking facilities, basic traffic regulations, location of public facilities, points of interest, and other public information;
- Performs light Parking meter maintenance such as washing and rinsing the exterior. Installing printer paper, cleaning EMV card Readers, Bill Validators, and coin acceptors, using cleaning cards and solutions. Use meter service menu to determine if the meter is operating within designed guideline.
- Serves as a member of various employee committees as assigned;
- Provide backup for related positions.
- Modern parking enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
- The applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations.
- The operation of the tools and equipment necessary to enforce parking ordinances.
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
- Interpret, apply and explain codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures using tact, patience and courtesy.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Communicate effectively.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors and the public.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Learn the City's geography.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent AND
- One (1) year of general office, communications, or public contact work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possess State of Florida parking enforcement specialist certification to issue parking citations or obtain certification within 90 days from date of appointment.
- Possession of a valid State of Florida Class "E" driver's license with no more than six (6) points in a three (3) year period.
