GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Performs preventative maintenance, fueling and services, and functions. Assists an automotive or heavy equipment mechanic when necessary. Maintains simple operating records relative to the use and care of the municipal vehicles and performs related work as required. Work is performed under the direction of the Equipment Foreman.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Services light and heavy equipment vehicles with fuel, oil, and grease.
- Performs minor repairs and adjustments.
- Conducts emissions tests and performs tire changes.
- Steam cleans engine and equipment.
- Knowledge of the less complex mechanical parts and hand tools employed in automotive repairs.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Perform preventative maintenance and services of automobiles and general service of automotive equipment.
- Maintain simple operating reports accurately.
- Possess tools related to the automotive trade as specified by supervisor.
- Maintains computerized tire maintenance, re-treading and inventory.
- Performs cutting with torches.
- Performs snow removal and equipment repair.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduation or GED, supplemented by technical courses in automotive maintenance repair.
- One year of general experience in automotive servicing work.
- Possession of a valid Class B Connecticut State Commercial Driver License (CDL).
- Equivalent of education and experience will be considered.
- Two years heavy equipment tire changing and tire maintenance including split rims.
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of garbage and refuse collection and disposal methods, practices, and equipment.
- Ability to layout and supervise the work of a large collection crew.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions. Ability to work in poor weather conditions such as cold, heat, rain, and snow. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
