Job Summary
An Assistant Pool Manager greets customers, provides guidance to pool staff, conducts in-service training, assists in the scheduling of staff, and oversees emergency procedures and facility management in the absence of the Pool Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have experience working in a public facility.
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an aquatic facility
- Completed a series of swim lessons
- Lifeguard Certification
- Ability to perform fundamental tasks on a computer.
Major Duties
- Oversee all actions of the Aquatic Center and employees in the absence of the pool manager.
- Assist pool manager with scheduling employees as needed.
- Perform customer service duties such as greeting patrons, giving directions, answering questions, providing facility information, and directing issues or situations to the manager as necessary.
- Chemical testing at the appropriate times. Report all problems, to the pool manager.
- Operate point of sale system as needed.
- Complete rescue reports and make available to the manager within 24 hours.
- Provide guidance and assistance to all lifeguards as needed.
- Maintaining order in swimming areas.
- Warning swimmers regarding unsafe situations.
- Respond to emergencies and rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
- Performing first aid procedures.
- Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in all areas.
- Conduct in-service training and meetings.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Physically perform all skills required of an Assistant Pool Manager (walk, lift, sit, stand, kneel, reach, rotate, climb)
- Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment.
- Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Vision requirements: close, distant, color, peripheral, and depth.
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment with exposure to heat, cold, wind, rain.

- Ability to communicate verbally with children, adults, and co-workers
- Required to present a positive and professional image and appropriately represent the City of Brookings.
- Must ensure the safety of patrons by implementing safety protocols and responding to emergencies.
