What are the responsibilities and job description for the Customer Service/Accounting Clerk position at City of Cameron?
Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to provide customer services and perform routine bookkeeping and assigned clerical tasks. The work is performed under the supervision of the City Clerk.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
· Provides customer services, greets and directs visitors, provides information to customers, and receives and credits payments for utility services, license fees, property/real estate taxes and other payments.
· Receives and handles requests from utility customers for move-ins and move-outs. Sells yard water meters.
· Prepares service orders. Writes up utility line locates.
· Updates utility customer accounts, prepares shut-off notifications for delinquent accounts, arranges payment schedules for delinquent accounts, and performs the shut-off process for delinquent accounts.
· Maintains landlord utility lists and lists of customers exempt from shut-off due to medical issues.
· Answers, screens, and routes telephone calls. Takes and relays messages. Provides information to callers.
· Sorts incoming mail.
· Prepares airport hangar rental billing statements.
· Maintains cigarette tax records.
· Prepares occupational licenses.
· Types a variety of materials from written and oral instruction.
· Reconciles petty cash and car wash funds.
· Files written materials, faxes messages, and photocopies materials and documents.
· Participates in job rotation events.
· Completes and mails new resident lists for utility billings. Photocopies new reside packets.
· Mails accounts payable checks.
· Assists with municipal court on a rotation schedule.
Additional Tasks and Responsibilities
While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.
· Requests utility line location services.
· Obtains electric meter boxes for contractors.
· Acts as notary.
· Performs other duties as directed.
Minimum Education or Experience Required
One to two years related experience and/or training; or Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Two to three years related experience and/or training; or Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
· Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
· Ability to classify, compute and tabulate data and information, following a prescribed plan requiring the exercise of some judgment. Ability to compare, count, differentiate, measure and sort information. Ability to assemble, copy, record and transcribe data and information.
· Ability to explain, demonstrate and clarify to others within well-established policies, procedures and standards. Ability to follow specific instructions and respond to simple requests from others.
· Ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information such as billing statements, customer payment records, cash reports, meter reading report, fuel use logs, cigarette tax report, City code, computer software operating manuals, ordinances, procedures, guidelines and non-routine correspondence.
· Ability to communicate orally and in writing with customers, City employees, property owners and utility employees.
· Ability to operate a variety of office equipment such as computer terminal, typewriter, telephone, fax machine, calculator/adding machine, computer printer and photocopier.
· Ability to pass drug screening.
· Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties.
