POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLEDUnder limited direction, the Survey Crew Leader supervises and performs skilled technical land-based and marine survey work of a difficult and responsible nature. Leads and directs crews performing survey work.
Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:- Performs and directs field survey work; establishes and determines scope for the work to be done and determines the procedures for surveying; researches plats and atlases and checks construction plans.
- Leads, directs, and conducts special reconnaissance surveys for the purpose of determining possible locations of new construction, drainage, sewers, and the like.
- Conducts special land surveys to establish easements for existing and proposed lines; collects field data for streets, roadways, and sewers; researches and determines plats and various atlases for property boundaries and easements; locates and identifies property corners and calculating positions of lost property monuments.
- Establishes coordinates, angles, distances, lines, points, and elevations; assists in establishing accurate field data for control (Geodetic and Coordinate), hydrographic, topographic, vertical, or right of way surveys, construction layout, and boundary retracements.
- Serves as supervisory inspector on streets, sewers, and other construction projects to see that contractors adhere to plans and specifications.
- Inspects construction projects, including checking or establishing grades, horizontal alignments, construction details, and general quality of work and materials.
- Maintains and accounts for tools and equipment to ensure an adequate supply of stakes, tapes, traffic cones, laths, and other devices at all times.
- Performs bench loops to verify elevations in the City Benchmark Network; uses automatic and digital levels; replaces and repairs destroyed benchmarks.
- Coordinates with contractors to determine stake out procedures for construction jobs, calculates appropriate stake points and time lines for work, and ensures timely completion.
- Checks and reduces field notes, makes survey calculations, and determines survey procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
A valid State driver's license is required.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma, or G.E.D. Certificate supplemented by six (6) months study of mathematics and technical training AND three (3) years of experience in surveying, drafting, inspection, or other sub-professional surveying work of which at least two (2) year's shall have been in operating survey instruments, OR three (3) years' field survey experience with the City of Clearwater of which at least one (1) year shall have been as a Survey Assistant II.; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
