JOB SUMMARY
Position performs clerical and field installation work. Employee must communicate with customers relating to all residential and commercial service in a polite manner and completing other projects assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required
Special Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid class "C" Texas Driver's License. Must have a clean driver's record through D.O.T. Must be able to withstand outdoor (Cold, Hot, Humid, Rainy) working conditions. Must be able to obtain a Class D water license within one year of employment or may be released from the City of Conroe. Must arrive to work on time daily and be able to work fluctuating after hours, weekends and holidays.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the use of basic operational tools.
- Skill in safely driving and operating a pickup truck.
- Ability to carry and load equipment weighing up to 70 pounds a distance of 15 to 200 feet and placing in truck bed.
- Ability to use a wrench or shovel with ability to hold and tighten meter at same time.
- Ability to lift, bend and carry objects at distance of 15 to 100 feet.
- Ability to respond to on-call service orders within 15 minutes of after hour calls, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to communicate politely and clearly via two-way radio and cellular phone.
- Ability to safely test, repair or replace water meters.
- Ability to use tools to remove obstructions from working area to set meter equipment.
- Ability to operate hand held computers and Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) drive-by computer, and complete service orders in the field.
- Ability to obtain the required certification for the position within the first year of employment. If not obtained within the first year, the City has the right to terminate employment.
- Ability to keep work vehicle and area clean daily.
- Ability to follow the appearance guidelines set by the department. Must maintain a clean appearance, shaved, clean working clothes, wear approved uniform and hat, hair off the collar, trimmed beard, no exposed piercings and keep work shoes cleaned/polished.
- Ability to test, repair and/or replace meters, boxes and meter interface units within the required time.
- Ability to operate the automatic drive-by computer.
- Ability to climb in and out of meter vaults to repair and or obtain readings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is heavy to medium and requires the ability to exert up to 70 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and talking.
