What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Secretary position at City of Danville?

Efficiently performs all duties within the operation of the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office. Performs clerical and administrative work involving legal matters. Operation of office equipment; Prepares correspondence and legal papers including extraditions, agreements on detainers, briefs, opinions, proceedings, orders, discovery, indictments and other documents to facilitate legal action; acts as a liaison between other public and private offices; shares telephone duty; may share courier duties at least twice daily between office, courts building and other departments if needed; performs other independent secretarial duties as assigned. Accurately prepares legal documents using existing forms and maintains records and files; effectively and diplomatically communicates orally and in writing. Must have the ability to follow complex directions, to prepare routine and more difficult reports and forms using existing forms; establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with other employees, public and private officials and a diverse general public.High School Diploma or GED plus secretarial experience; two years of which is preferred in the legal field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities listed above. Typing efficiency is required.
