prepares and sends notices to owners regarding needed work; meets with owners as needed to explain requirements and options.
Inspects new construction to ensure compliance with City Code and specifications, including checking grades, forms, testing concrete air content and slump, ordering subgrade compaction tests, and prepares concrete test cylinders.
Assists with administration of annual sidewalk construction contracts, including preparing estimates of quantities and costs, preparing property owner notices, contractor pay estimates, and billings to owners.
May perform this work as 'off season' work when needed.Maintenance of State and Federal Grant records and construction forms.
Assists in inspection of snow / ice buildup on sidewalks.Reports general City Ordinance violations to Customer Experience Team.
Volunteers for snow duties when able.
High School Diploma and three years of responsible experience in concrete construction inspection or related sub-professional engineering experience, or graduation from a two-year engineering technology program and one year of sub-professional engineering experience;
work experience must include inspection of public facilities, public relations, or public information; or an equivalent
combination of training and experience.Must obtain a PCC-I (Portland Cement Concrete), HMA-I (Hot Mix Asphalt) and an AGG-I (Aggregate) within the first year of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment.
Must possess a valid Driver’s License and maintain throughout duration of employment.Must pass a physical examination and a background check as prescribed by the city.
Must reside in Iowa or Illinois within two (2) years of hire and maintain residency throughout the duration of employment.
Good Knowledge Of : Concrete construction methods and materials.
Maintenance of accurate daily records and activity logs.
Reading and interpreting
construction plans, specifications and contracts.
Establishing and maintaining positive and effective relationships with contractors, subcontractors, property owners, municipal officials, and the general public.
