Summary

Essential Functions and Other Important Duties
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for continually observing activities of patrons to ensure their safety
- Performs rescue/first aid techniques as needed
- Monitors the swimming pool and surrounding area during period of operation. Explains, clarifies and enforces pool rules
- Responsible for cleaning the pool and surrounding area and facilities
- Administers first aid to guests, employees, co-workers, and supervisors
- Attend weekly trainings and in-services
- Assist in aquatic programming
- Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
- Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Must have current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Lifeguarding Certification R.07 with the American Red Cross (other comparable certifications may be accepted) prior to employment
- All applicants must pass a water skills test prior to employment.
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers, customers, supervisors and the general public
- Possess strong working knowledge of first aid, aquatic rescue procedures and display strong swimming skills
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Prior lifeguarding experience
- Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check and social security number verification
- Must pass a physical examination
- Must have current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Lifeguarding Certification R.07 with the American Red Cross (other comparable certifications may be accepted) prior to employment
- All applicants must pass a water skills test prior to employment.
- Must be able to work on rotating schedule seven (7) days (up to 40 hours) per week
- Must be able to work entire season beginning in May and ending in September

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids:
The essential functions of this position require the daily use of rescue tubes, backboard, shepherd’s crook, whistle, hip pack, resuscitation mask and other first aid supplies, sun block.
Environmental Factors:
The essential functions of this position are performed in chlorinated water either in a natatorium or at outdoor aquatic facilities in potential extreme summer heat.Potential exists for carrying up to 50 pounds to remove rescued individuals from pool.
