Responsible for the collection, analysis, and storage of data collected in the field to maintain a quality water and wastewater systemEssential Functions:
- Performs field work in all types of weather and on various surfaces including entry to sanitary sewer manholes or other confined spaces
- Uses technical equipment to monitor, record, and calculate the performance of the water distribution and wastewater collection system
- Handles customer inquiries
- Organizes and files paperwork, drawings, and research projects
- Assists in the repair of technical equipment
- Assists in survey functions using GPS or similar systems
- Uses computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook to manage and document work
- Inspects vehicles to ensure maintenance needs are identified and addressed
- Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
- Works with field crews to install/repair/maintain the system
- Maintains on-call availability for after hour emergencies
- Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
- May perform functions of a Field Service Technician III in the absence of a Field Service Technician III
- Performs other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 2 years of experience in water utilities, public works construction or inspection, or equivalent field
OR
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and customers
- Ability to learn and follow standard operating procedures
- Ability to consistently produce high-quality work under minimal supervision
- Ability to effectively use computers and computer software
- Ability to effectively use technical equipment
- Ability to recognize and respond to problems discovered in the course of work
- Education or experience in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Water Utilities
- Mechanical knowledge to repair technical equipment
- Technical experience or training in drafting or mapping applications, such as Esri ArcMap or AutoCAD
- Technical training or experience in utility field work, such as surveying, construction, or inspection
- Ability to obtain NASSCO PACP Certification
- Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL)with Tank Vehicle endorsement and a good driving record OR must possess a valid Class C driver license with a good driving record and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with Tank Vehicle endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
- Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
- Must pass a physical examination
- Must be able to work overtime when requested
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include nights or weekends
- Must attend and successfully complete the City's Defensive Driving Course (DDC) as soon as possible after employment
- Must be able to lift 80lbs
- Must be able to obtain a Wastewater Collections Class I license or better from the TCEQ within 18 months of employment
