The purpose of the position is to inspect the construction of local government water and sewer systems, and roadways and bridges, for conformance to contract specifications. This is accomplished by reviewing and interpreting plans; inspecting construction operations; calculating monthly quantities; maintaining records; coordinating right-of-way programs; and ensuring compliance with all rules, regulations, and specifications. Other duties include responding to requests, answering inquiries, researching and preparing documents, completing reports, and filing and maintaining documentation.
- Ensures contractor compliance to City standards by coordinating testing; reviewing engineering plans; completing on-site inspections; conducting follow-up inspections; and resolving issues with agencies and contractors;
- Coordinates with staff and contractors by reviewing change orders; construction plans, right-of-way permits, and pay applications; attending project coordination meetings; calculating field measurements on capital improvement projects; and maintaining records;
- Completes on-site review by inspecting construction materials and grade elevations; reviewing underground facilities; instructing on safety precautions; assessing road and concrete structures, street light installations, traffic devices, and erosion silt control; and coordinating material testing;
- Ensures accuracy of contractor progress by calculating project quantities; verifying estimates; and maintaining records of materials and quantities used; and
- Performs other assigned duties.
- Associate’s Degree in Construction Management or other related field;
- APWA Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector Certification (CPII) preferred;
- MUTCD Certification preferred
- TCEQ Class C Water and Wastewater Collection II License preferred;
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician-Grade I Certification will be required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Knowledge of City policies and procedures;
- Knowledge of TCEQ and construction rules, regulations, and specifications;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
- Skill in the operation of field-measuring equipment and tools;
- Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing;
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications;
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends, and be on-call during non-working hours;
- Ability to work in a field environment with variable conditions; and
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with City administration, other employees, and the general public.
Salary : $52,124 - $76,100
