JOB DESCRIPTION
Professional nursing services, responsible for ensuring the health and wellness of the local community based on
Massachusetts regulations and rules related to public health; including investigating, reporting, and analyzing incidences of communicable diseases, performing health screenings and vaccination programs; as well as providing education and developing policies through the analysis of evidence-based principles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Investigate, document, and track communicable disease cases
- Provide health information and consultations to healthcare providers and residents in an effort to decrease the spread of disease
- Confer with inspectors and health care providers in managing cases; implement Department of Public
Health guidelines in the event of an outbreak of communicable diseases
- Participate in emergency preparedness
- Maintain knowledge of emerging pathogens and community risk factors; aid in developing health policies to respond to outbreaks
- Work in conjunction with school nurses and administrators to identify public health needs within the community
- Coordinate and execute annual flu vaccination clinics; supervise the distribution of vaccines; orders and bills for vaccines; answer providers’ questions. Maintain supply inventory; manage reports for appropriate agencies as requested
- Perform community outreach; develop, research, and make presentations on various health education initiatives at local community facilities and centers
- Provide referrals for the general public regarding health-related issues, including referrals to area resources and providers, free or low-cost screenings, and other available programs
- Oversee and implement tuberculosis control program; set up various screening and vaccine distribution clinics and make home visits to residents with TB
- Inspect summer camps to assess compliance with state and city laws, regulations, and ordinances
- Be trained in Child Passenger Seat Technician training (CPS). Inspect and provide education on car seats
- Perform similar or related work as required or as the situation dictates
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in nursing and 3 years experience in a public health setting, school or community nursing, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements:
Registered Nurse Certificate
Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operators License
Experience in MAVEN preferred
Training in Child Passenger Seat Technician Training preferred
