Department: Police Department
Starting Salary Range: $17.30-18.38 Per Hour
Effective Tuesday, September 7th and until further notice, all future City of Edmond employees will be required to have at least the first dose of a COVID vaccination before they will be hired. New employees who have received the first dose will be required to get the second dose when they are allowed to do so by the vaccination guidelines.
This position is designated as a safety/security sensitive and is subject to pre-employment, reasonable suspicion and random drug and alcohol screening.
City of Edmond Detention Facility is located in the downtown area at 100 E. First Street. This positions primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and care of inmates during their confinement at the detention facility.

The Work:

  • Booking inmates into the Detention Center.
  • Checking for drugs or weapons and physically restraining inmates/releasing inmates from the Detention Center.
  • Supervision of inmate’s well-being (feeding, showering, health issues, and monitoring).
  • Complete fingerprinting for citizens and inmates.
  • This Position requires 24/7 operation and consists of working shifts with frequent overtime and working holidays and weekends.
  • Responsible for complete cleaning, disinfecting, and de-contaminating of inmate area.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent. Plus 12-18 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have typing and computer skill and ability to learn new software systems.
  • Must be accessible to work shift work (current shifts are 7am to 3pm, 3pm to 11pm, and 11pm to 7am).
  • Must be able to react quickly in an emergency and make sound rational decisions while demonstrating good judgement.
  • Able to demonstrate strength enough to handle oneself, as in subduing a prisoner.
  • Able to interpret applicable laws, ordinances & regulations.
  • Must maintain Self-control, composure, avoid angered aggression, and act in a professional manner when dealing with difficult individuals or situations.
  • Must analyze situations quickly and objectively recognize actual and potential danger to determine a proper course of action.
  • Must be able to follow procedures, practices, and safety rules in place to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Must utilize effective and professional communication with co-workers, inmates, and the general public.
  • Must be flexible and adapt quickly to changes in scheduling, subject to call-backs and overtime.
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.
  • Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation, dummy drag, psychological test, polygraph, and drug/physical screenings.
