Police Service Officer
Position Summary
Under supervision, performs duties in a non-sworn capacity in support of Elmhurst Police Department operations both within the station and in the field. Assists the community by resolving non-criminal calls for police service in support of the Department. Performs non-emergency police and records related functions. Community Service Officers are generally the first point of contact with the police department. Community Service Officers may also perform crossing guard, traffic direction, matron, and animal control duties. Performs duties on an assigned shift, including holidays and weekends.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assists the public with Police Department requests and inquiries.
- Determines the nature of the visit or the problem and explains detailed policies, procedures and regulations; disseminates, provides factual information regarding the functions, activities, policies and procedures of the Police Department.
- Answers the telephone for an office or offices; determines the nature of the call; directs callers to the proper person, to 911 operators, or takes messages.
- Performs a variety of basic office support duties such as collating materials, completing forms, proofreading typed or printed materials, and/or typing correspondence reports and other materials.
- Transports vehicles to and from locations as required; performs vehicle inspections; replaces and replenishes necessary equipment as needed.
- Assists with special events as required.
- Uses a computer and specialized software including L.E.A.D.S, WebRMS, BEAST MCR, and MDT.
- Retrieves and sends messages from LEADS and DuPage County regarding warrants, missing persons, stolen vehicles, court dates, etc.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED; AND three years of customer service experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources. Public safety work experience a plus. Valid driver’s license.
This is a full-time position at 40 hours per week. The position follows a shift schedule of days, afternoons or midnights. Weekends and holidays may be required. Overtime may be required. Salary: $23.95 to $35.93/hour. To view the job descriptions, please click here.
