What are the responsibilities and job description for the Day Camp Aide position at City of Evans?
SUMMARY: The Day Camp Aide is an integral part of the Evans Summer Day Camp program. The ideal candidate will be a friendly self-starter who is looking to work with school-age children in the future. The Day Camp Aide is responsible for assisting with the direction of a wide variety of recreation activities for the 9-week summer day camp program for up to 40 children, ages 5-11.

- Protects health and safety (emotional and physical) of all campers.
- Assists in providing experiences that promote individual and group growth.
- Assists with planning, organizing, and directing a wide variety of recreation programs, field trips, and special events.
- Supports activities such as crafts, science projects, games, and reading.
- Collaborates with Director and camp staff to create an effective discipline plan for campers. Monitors camper behavior daily.
- Supervises the issuance, use, care and maintenance of recreation supplies, and equipment.
- Follows assigned work schedule and camp schedule.
- Supervises participants on all bus trips, at the swimming pool, and during special events.
- Actively participates in camp activities, including regular interaction with staff and campers.
- Reviews and understands camp policies and procedures.
- Reports to the Recreation Coordinator as needed regarding programs, activities, special events, supplies, or any equipment with problems or in need of repair.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Education/Experience: Must be at least 16 years of age or older; prefer previous experience working with children, ideally in a camp setting. Ability to accept supervision and guidance. Must possess integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, patience, thoughtfulness and self-control. Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, personal responsibility, punctuality, and sportsmanship. Positive, “can do” attitude.
Must demonstrate ability to work with children, and must meet the following qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to support staff in a wide variety of recreation, educational, and cultural activities for youth.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations for various sports and athletic activities.
- Ability to work well with small children ages 5 to 11.
- Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well and cooperate with staff.
Licensing and/or Certification Requirements: Must have current CPR/First Aid/Universal Precautions Certification, and Medication Administration Training prior to first day of camp.
Physical and Mental Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the intern is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, squat, talk, kneel, crouch, reach, hear and see. Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration. The intern is required to perform lifting 25 pounds.
Work Environment: Depending on the day, work is performed in a fast-paced indoor or outdoor environment and requires work in off-site locations.
