Under the supervision of the Line Foreman, this employee assists Line Workers and other Electric Department employees with the construction and maintenance of the City’s electrical system. The employee collects tools and supplies needed for project work, sets poles from the ground and from digger trucks, frames and assembles poles, climbs poles, pulls underground and overhead wiring, splices wire, digs holes for pole and underground service installations, assists with holiday light installation and removal and assists crews involved with outage calls. This employee operates heavy equipment such as digger trucks, bucket trucks, backhoe, mud sucker and forklift. This job is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to a pre-employment background check and random drug screens.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Attends Required Training Programs. Employee must attend all required training classes and programs. Attend all required training classes and programs provided by the Department, including hands-on and in-class training sessions.Must attend and successfully complete Alabama Rural Electric Association (AREA) school after being hired (to become Journeyman Lineman).Successfully complete all required training programs and classes.
