RATE: $16.13/hour, not to exceed 28 hours weekly


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Shall perform regularly scheduled, non-scheduled, specific and emergency inspections of residential and commercial properties to determine compliance with City’s property maintenance codes and City ordinances
  • Shall issue notices and court summonses pertaining to code and ordinance violations and represent the City on said court issues.
  • May perform residential occupancy inspections.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be capable of reading and interpreting ordinances and codes.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing to property owners, City personnel, the courts and the general public.
  • Must be able to use a personal computer, iPad, smart phone, copier, scientific calculator, FAX, video conferencing tools, electrical tester and miscellaneous measuring devices.

  • Majority of work is performed in the field and some work is performed in office.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is usually required to drive, see, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and smell.
  • The employee must be able to safely drive an automobile.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

Applicant must have graduated from High School, or equivalent. Three years experience and progressive responsibility in construction, building trades and code enforcement are preferred. Advanced formal certification in the locally enforced building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fire codes is desirable. Valid driver’s license is required.
