Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Parks, Streets & Stormwater Supervisor or the Public Works Director, this position assists in executing functions related to street upkeep and stormwater maintenance and repair; construction, maintenance and repairs to city roads, facilities and equipment, parks and building maintenance and performs related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains and repairs streets, dirt roads, sidewalks, signs, rights-of way, ditch swales, and stormwater infrastructure.
- Assists in street blocking and maintenance of traffic for special events, parades, and
- Sweeps City streets to remove sediment and
- Removes tree limbs where
- Assists with street construction or
- Patches roads and streets with hot and cold blacktop mix, resurface roads, grading roads, rolling roads, and graveling
- Erects road signs in accordance with state requirements, installs, repairs, and makes new signs, as
- Operates power equipment including attachments, maintains and repairs equipment keeping it in good operating
- Performs carpentry and masonry work in constructing and repairing streets, roads, sidewalks, curbs, catch basins and
- Pick up trash and debris, cleans catch basins and remove
- Paints streets, buildings and equipment as
- Performs shop work, welding, and carpentry work on city property.
- Operates chain saw, removes and hauls off trees, brush, and stumps.
- May require work during breaks and/or lunch in situations that require completion of projects in a timely manner and may be asked to work overtime to complete assignments.
- Assists other departments as directed.
- Provides good customer service to citizens as required by City of Fort Meade policy.
- Required to participate in the stand-by and/or call-out rotation to respond to problems after normal work hours, and on weekends and may be subject to call-out at any time when other call out personnel require additional assistance.

Minimum Qualifications (KSAs):
- Knowledge of basic hand tools, such as shovels, hammer and nails, and power tools.
- Knowledge of general maintenance, construction, tools, and equipment.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in performing maintenance, construction, and repairs work.
- Ability to obtain specific certifications related to Streets and Stormwater training requirements.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with City staff and the public.
- Ability to be trained for operating equipment such as backhoe, front end loader, skid steer, dump bed truck and street sweeper.
- Ability to perform the specialized semi-skilled maintenance and repair.
- Ability to perform strenuous work, including heavy lifting.
- Ability to operate heavy constructions and related equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Education, Training and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses, Certificates, Special Requirements:
- Valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License within 6 months of employment.
