The Student Aide is a participant in the City’s “Step Up To Work” Program which provides an opportunity for current students within the City of Fort Myers city limits to perform tasks that assist in the operation of City functions and enables the Student to gain workplace and job skills to develop themselves for future careers. Student Aides may be required to maintain a logbook of daily work, training and learnings. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation
:
Non Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee’s Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

Duties/Responsibilities

Depending on the department, students may assist with clerical duties, filing, data entry, phones, concession stands, set up and clean up of activities, birthday parties, skate rentals, assisting guests by providing information, trash and/or debris clean up, and landscape maintenance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be 14 - 18 years of age at the time of application
  • A student currently enrolled in school
  • A resident of and living within the city limits of the City of Fort Myers

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • May require incumbent to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger; handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds depending on the assigned area.
  • Contact with internal and external customers, and the general public.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions.
  • May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including weekends and holidays.

    • Certain management positions can opt out of the General Pension into a 401(a).

    • Offered through payroll deduction.
