PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Maintenance Worker performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the care, maintenance, and improvement of city parks, athletic fields, public grounds, and recreational facilities. This position is responsible for ensuring that public spaces remain safe, clean, attractive, and functional for residents and visitors of Fort Pierce.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Perform routine maintenance of parks, grounds, athletic fields, and landscaped areas.
• Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, edgers, blowers, trimmers, and small hand tools.
• Plant, water, prune, fertilize, and remove trees, shrubs, and flowers as directed.
• Collect and dispose of litter, debris, and refuse from grounds and facilities.
• Assist with the setup, breakdown, and support of special city events and recreational programs.
• Operate city vehicles safely while transporting materials, tools, and equipment.
• Respond to work orders and citizen service requests in a timely and professional manner.
• Follow all safety regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of general maintenance tasks and procedures.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Knowledge of safe operation of power tools and light equipment.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of equipment and tools related to the position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
• Six (6) months related manual labor experience.
• Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or maintenance preferred.

(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:

• Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

• Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
• Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid)
• Ability to communicate orally.
• Heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying
• Climbing, Reaching, Pulling, Grasping, Sitting, Bending.
• Kneeling, Walking, Standing, Stooping, Driving, Equipment operation.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

• Works outside in various weather conditions with dust, fumes, gases chemicals, oils, uneven
• Surfaces, poor lighting, vibrations.
• Heights (up to 10 feet) Below ground level
