Fleet Management and Evidence Technician
Starting Salary: $42,893 - $47,182 DOQ
Join the Fredericksburg Police Department as a Fleet Management and Evidence Technician. This role is pivotal in managing the fleet and evidence room operations, ensuring effective support and compliance. *PLEASE NOTE* We are currently only accepting applications from current City of Fredericksburg employees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage records, custom builds, repairs, and maintenance of the police department's fleet.
- Retrieve and document evidence from secured lockers, maintaining chain of custody.
- Input and track property/evidence information with accuracy.
- Label and store property/evidence appropriately, preparing for laboratory analysis.
- Verify and correct documentation, ensuring accuracy for officers.
- Communicate with Commonwealth Attorney's Office and courts on property/evidence matters.
- Process incoming/outgoing property/evidence for court proceedings.
- Notify property/evidence owners about retrieval or forfeiture options.
- Drive to courts for property/evidence collection post-trials.
- Handle safekeeping, lost, and found items per department policies.
- Prepare unclaimed property for auction.
- Maintain vehicle documentation; facilitate owner contact for releases.
- Generate reports and documentation for evidence audits and destruction.
- Testify in court about evidence accountability and chain of custody.
- Process requests for information and reports.
- Manage security alarms and incinerate drugs and hazardous evidence.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in evidence storage areas.
- Categorize and prepare documents for evidence management.
- Interact with various stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and coordination.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years of administrative and clerical experience preferred.
- Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license.
- Ability to obtain property and evidence room certifications.
- Strong knowledge of clerical duties, laws, and regulations related to the position.
- Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with internal and external entities.
- Proficiency in operating office equipment and using computer software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent organizational and customer service skills.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and understand complex principles.
- Strong judgment and decision-making capabilities.
