What are the responsibilities and job description for the Downtown Maintenance Technician position at City of Gainesville, GA?
Assists in the maintenance, beautification, and cleanliness of the Downtown area and City facilities to provide a clean, safe, and enjoyable environment for the citizens of Gainesville. Provide assistance with events downtown to include preparation, setup and breakdown as needed by the Communications and Tourism Department.
Perform grounds and building maintenance, landscape maintenance, litter control, solid waste removal, janitorial services and other duties related to keeping a clean and safe downtown area and City owned facilities.
Maintain downtown landscaping, including planter boxes and pots. Install annual/seasonal landscaping, weed areas when needed.
Conduct maintenance and repair on City facilities and amenities as needed or when directed, to include painting, staining, brick and paver repair, and irrigation line repair.
Pressure wash sidewalks, trash cans, benches, stairwells and other area as assigned.
Clean public areas, to include litter removal, disposing of trash in receptacles within the downtown area and Parking Deck and, provide janitorial cleanups as needed.
Assist Communications and Tourism Department with set up, take down and cleanup of City events in the Downtown and other areas. Position will require night and weekend hours to help with Tourism event
Hang banners, signs and decorations for City events.
Set up and take down of tents and barricades for City events.
Subject to recall 24 hours a day in case of emergency.
Performs other related duties as required.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Ability to read and write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Basic computer knowledge.
Two years of building and grounds maintenance experience.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends as needed.
Must have mechanical aptitude.
Knowledge of building maintenance, construction and grounds keeping methods, equipment and materials.
Knowledge of variety of skilled trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry and grounds maintenance.
Skill in coordinating work activities.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to understand and follow instructions, both orally and in writing
Ability to perform strenuous and routine manual work and to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to deal with the general public on a day to day basis.
Ability to understand and follow instructions, both orally and in writing.
