What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lift Station Technician position at City of Gainesville, GA?
Under the direction of the Lift Station Supervisor and working with other Lift Station staff, the Lift Station Technician is responsible for the daily operation of Water Resources lift stations to ensure wastewater is continually pumped from customers to the treatment plants.
Inspects assigned lift stations and water pumping stations for proper operation and efficiency by conducting routine inspections and minor maintenance. Reports any issues to the Lift Station Supervisor and documents the findings in the ESRI/GIS software.
Pulls pump inspection plates to confirm pumps are clean and free of debris. Pull manhole covers to make sure lift station wet wells have minimal build up. Report findings to the Lift Station Supervisor and document findings in the ESRL/GIS database. May be responsible for overseeing wet well cleanout contractors work to ensure work is performed safely and efficiently.
Collects daily pump run-time information for assigned lift stations and enters the information into the ESRI/GIS software application.
Ensures the lift station generators are operational and monitors fuel levels documents fuel levels in the ESRI/GIS software application. Responsible for notifying the Lift Station Supervisor when the generator needs fueling.
Monitors odor control equipment at assigned lift stations and reports any problems in a timely manner to the Lift Station Supervisor.
Works with the Lift Station Supervisor to keep accurate asset records up-to-date in the Water Resources CMMS.
Conducts wet well drawdown testing on assigned lift station semi-annually. Reports results back to the Lift Station Supervisor and maintains records in the ESRI/GIS software application.
Responsible for the safety, organization and cleanliness of all lift stations and water pumping stations. Follows all established safety rules and regs for Water Resources and the City.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Employee subject to recall to duty in cases of emergency.Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Experience working in lift station operations and maintenance preferred but not required.
Technical school diploma in related field preferred but not required.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Class C driver's license and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Level I Water/Wastewater Maintenance Technologist Certificate preferred.
Level II Water/Wastewater Maintenance Technologist Certificate preferred.
Level III Water/Wastewater Maintenance Technologist Certificate preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of applicable safety rules for equipment repair and maintenance.
Knowledge of electrical systems, controls, and various water and wastewater equipment components.
Knowledge of maintenance techniques and practices.
Basic mechanical skills in proper use of hand tools and other equipment to maintain and repair equipment.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to operate a personal computer.
Physical Requirements
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light to medium physical effort in sedentary to medium level activity with may require some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of medium weight to heavy weight. Duties require the ability to use a personal computer, operate a motor vehicle, and use various types of tools and equipment used in inspection and measurement of lift station equipment.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are performed with frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions including weather, dust, debris, chemicals, and machinery involved in construction.This position is classified as safety-sensitive.
