Job Description
Under general supervision, creates and maintains data sets that comprise the Public Works portion of the City"s Geographic Information System (GPS).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Creates tables and spread sheets of data containing information that includes the City"s water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and drainage systems.
Creates, manages and maintains maps based on various data sets; ensures data displays a positve visual and spatial representation.
Performs analyses on data sets and maps to provide information to various requests.
Prints maps, spreadsheets and reports based on data sets.
Provides assistance to other staff regarding various computer hardware/software issues or problems.
Orders printer and plotter supplies.
Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge:
City organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
GIS systems.
GPS equipment.
Data management principles and practices.
Construction plans.
Mapping practices and methods.
Automated design principles and methods.
Principles and practices of project management.
Business and personal computers, and spreadsheet software applications.

Operating and maintaining sophisticated GIS equipment.
Operating computerized design equipment.
Understanding and applying City policies and procedures, and applicable federal and state regulations.

Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent; AND two years" experience in GIS operations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $52,644.00 - $78,965.00 per year
