DEPARTMENT: Park Department JOB TITLE: Park Maintenance II
STATUS: Full Time JOB CATEGORY: Maintenance
NATURE OF WORK:
Performs minor repairs / improvements and maintains the cleanliness of parks grounds (lawns , shrubs, tree branches, and vegetation) and facility structures (rest rooms, offices, parking lots, benches, clearing debris from irrigation systems, and other park facilities).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Clean machines and machine parts, using cleaning solvent and cloths, hoses, vacuums or other equipment.
- Responsible for ensuring park cleanliness, including cutting and manicuring grass in a professional manner.
- Performs jobs which require safety equipment.
- Set up and break down the rooms for pavilion rentals.
- Assist with snow removal.
- Collect and remove trash from parks and pavilions.
- Performs unskilled labor in connection with maintenance tasks.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports to the Park Foreman
SUPERVISION EXERCISE:
None.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Use hand tools for gardening, and performing semi-skilled maintenance work (using a leaf blower, snow blower, weed wacker, or other small hand held equipment) for park structures
- Establish effectives working relationships with management, employees,, employee representatives, and the public representing diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Treat City of Gary employees, representatives of outside agencies, and members of the public with courtesy and respect.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Education equivalent to that of a High School Diploma.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Working conditions contain moderate risks which require planned safety precautions for limited periods of time.
- Maybe subject to inclement weather and / or weather extremes during the discharge of responsibilities.
- Physical work including a variety of small equipment, including the use of small tools, lawn maintenance equipment, and mowers.
- Considerable periods of standing / sitting.
- Moderate to heavy lifting (minimum 25lbs.) pushing, and pulling at times.
