Summary of Position
The City of Golden Valley's City Management Fellowship is an onsite, paid two-year, full-time fellowship designed to establish the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience for a future in city management. We are seeking a motivated and curious individual who approaches work with curiosity, dedication, and enthusiasm and is interested in a city management career.
Expected Hours of Work :
Hours are typically Monday-Friday from 8 : 30 am to 5 : 00 pm. In addition to working office hours, staff may be required to work additional events. Hours may include nights and / or weekends.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

- Participate in projects relating to the creation and implementation of City policies and procedures.
Develop recommendations on assigned department work methods, operating policies and procedures, programs services, and other administrative issues; observe program operations; analyze findings and implications; make recommendations to the City Manager.
Provide insight into the development of short- and long-range plans; gather, interpret, and prepare data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinate department activities with other departments and agencies as needed.
Provide recommendations to Department Heads; review and recommend proposed legislation; generate presentations to councils, boards, commissions, civic groups, and the general public.
Prepare a variety of studies, reports, and related information for decision-making purposes.
Ensure assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; monitor revenues and expenditures in assigned areas to ensure sound fiscal control.
Lead City Management special projects and activities.
Assist City Manager with presentations to employees, elected officials, and the public and attend and participate in meetings as required.
Assist with City Board, Commission, and Task Force processes.
Attend regular executive management team meetings, participate in strategic cross-departmental organizational initiatives and policy development, and provide reports on department-wide projects and other matters of importance to the City.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Ability to complete the essential duties and responsibilities of the internship with or without reasonable accommodations.
A desire to learn and contribute to a dynamic team.
Desired Qualifications :
Experience in municipal management of a city similar size to Golden Valley.
Knowledge and experience working with municipal budgets, TIF, and LGA.
Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws and regulations regarding public sector employment including but not limited to Pay Equity, Veterans Preference, Americans with Disabilities Act, HIPPA, and MN Government Data Practices Act.
Specialized training or experience in the areas of organizational development, strategic planning, and project management.
Previous public or media relations experience.

Work is conducted primarily indoors. Employees in this position generally free from work hazards. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to :
