What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Civil Engineer position at City of Grand Prairie?
The purpose of this position is to assist the City's Engineering Department. This is accomplished by managing the Development Civil Plan Review Team by reviewing the public works section of the development civil plans including water, sewer, paving and drainage and coordinating with the construction management of the projects. Other duties include supervising the Civil Engineering Plan review staff (Development Coordinators) and interacting with other City employees, developers, contractors, and the public.
- Supervises personnel by observing and monitoring work tasks; scheduling work assignments; evaluating work performance; providing input on performance evaluation and providing input on hire and disciplinary actions.
- Reviews public works aspects of development plans including grading, paving, water, wastewater, drainage, and detention design.
- Supports Development Coordinators by attending meetings with them, as requested, to answer questions from a development team. Provides help to Coordinators with reviews that may be late or that need extra attention.
- Reviews comments from the various department representatives prior to the comments being sent to the applicant. Coordinates with the assigned Development Coordinator to ensure that all comments are clear, founded on city standards or accepted engineering principles, and to resolve any comments that may conflict with each other.
- Performs site visits together with assigned Development Coordinator to better understand projects being reviewed.
- Participates as a reviewer for commercial and multi-family building permits and Certificates of Occupancy to ensure that the appropriate standards for public works construction have been met.
- All other duties as assigned by a supervisor/manager within your department/division.
- Regular and consistent attendance and punctuality for the assigned work hours is essential.
- Education: Work requires a professional level of knowledge of a discipline equivalent to that which is acquired in a bachelor’s degree-level of study, preferably Civil Engineering.
- Experience: Over 5 years
- Licenses: Valid Texas Class C Driver's License
- Certifications Required: Professional Engineer's License from the State of Texas
