What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service - Facility Housekeeping Technician position at City of Grove City?

The Facilities Housekeeping Technician, under the immediate supervision of the Facility Housekeeping Coordinator is responsible for the cleanliness and day-to-day servicing of City buildings and facilities.

Completion of secondary education (high school or GED); must be 18 years of age; must be able to qualify for and remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance policy.

To be considered for the position your complete application must be submitted no later than February 12, 2023. Performs basic cleaning procedures including, but not limited to, trash removal, cleaning waste receptacles, wall and interior window washing, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and restocking paper supplies.

Performs advanced cleaning and disinfecting procedures including, but not limited to, offices, meeting rooms, lobby areas, restrooms, hallways, break rooms and stairways.

Performs complex cleaning procedures including stripping, waxing, and buffing vinyl tile surfaces in accordance with manufacture’s recommendations.

Performs various levels of carpet cleaning.

Operates power cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaner, carpet extractor, floor buffer’s, floor cleaners, and power washers.

Inspects custodial equipment and tools on a regular basis.

Assists Facility Housekeeping Coordinator with inventory orders, control and deliveries in a timely manner.

Assists Facility Housekeeping Coordinator  with scheduled and unscheduled facility and site inspections.

Assists Facility Housekeeping Coordinator  with Part-time employee schedules, after hour calls and shift coverage.

Assists with snow/ice removal from building entrances of all City owned and operated facilities as needed.

Assists in moving furniture, loading and unloading freight up to 50 lbs.

Assumes crew leader role when working alongside Part-time Facility Service Techs.

Operates and maintains City owned equipment and vehicles as assigned.

Demonstrates regular attendance.

Prepares and submits records of work completed in a timely manner.

Performs other custodial duties as assigned by the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.Works around motorized equipment, is exposed to environmental conditions; exposed to possible injury from extremely noisy conditions above 85 db; exposed to possible injury from hazardous gases, chemicals, flammables, air contaminants; exposed to wet walking surfaces; works in inclement weather conditions (snow, sleet, rain etc); exposed to traffic; exposed to dirt, dust and odor; employee may exert in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Experience in development and management of custodial staff; Sound knowledge of custodial methods, equipment and materials; Knowledge of inventory control; ability to adjust work hours to accommodate City needs; access to personal transportation; ability to pass background checks; ability to work independently; City/department goals and objectives; City/department policies and procedures; English grammar and spelling; workplace safety; local geographical area.

General knowledge in computer operation; use of modern office equipment; electronics; motor vehicle operation.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, picture or schedule form; interpret extensive variety of technical material in books, journals, and manuals; problem solving; determine material and equipment needs; complete routine forms; communicate effectively; recognize safety warnings; understand technical manuals and verbal communications; travel to gain access to work site.

Must be able to maintain insurability under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.

Minimum Qualifications:  Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to 1-3 years in Facility Services, custodial, or janitorial roles.
