Position Function:

Under the direction of the Utility Maintenance Superintendent, performs duties to support the Maintenance Division by serving as the Utility Maintenance Supervisor. Responsible for the planning, coordinating, and supervising of daily functions of the Lead positions within the Maintenance Division.


Essential Duties:

  1. Responsible for the planning, coordination, and supervision of Leads for the following: Pump and Motor, Water Pipeline Repair, Waste Water Pipeline Repair, and Meter Leads. Maintenance and /or repair of critical Infrastructure to include but not limited to water treatment and distribution systems (pumps, motors, pipelines, lift stations, bio screens, reuse, drainage systems, electronics, mains, manholes, etc.) Responsible for ensuring safe practices and procedures, preventative/predictive maintenance schedules, and planning and coordination of activities with other departments.

  2. Perform duties necessary to support the utility division through inspection, maintenance, and repair of the distribution system, collection system, lift stations, and water and wastewater facilities including but not limited to pumps, motors, engines, hydraulics, electrical equipment, meters, compressors, valves, controllers, conveyance systems, feed systems and other items related to lifting stations, drainage stations or transfer stations.

  3. Performs and assists with inspections of new construction, infrastructure maintenance, and repair services; must have the ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently.

  4. Responsible to ensure the proper training of Personnel. Supervises Personnel, and conducts performance evaluations and disciplinary processes and procedures within established organizational and department guidelines, policies, and/or directives.

  5. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Environment:

Duties are performed primarily within an indoor environment or setting. Possible exposure to electrical and chemical hazards; odor; sewage; bloodborne pathogens; vibration; loud noise; inclement weather; and dust, allergens, and mold.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Required knowledge and experience are normally obtained through the completion of a curriculum resulting in either a High School Diploma or GED, and five (5) to seven (7) years work related experience as/in Mechanic, Pump and Motor Mechanic, Construction Management or related field are

  • Work requires the ability to read letters, memos, contracts, professional and industry literature, spreadsheets, and other job-related analysis.

  • MOT Certification must be obtained within two years of employment.

  • Work requires the ability to write letters and memos.

  • Work requires substantial independent judgment and decision-making. Must be able to monitor and assess operations, workload, projects, and staff performance.

  • Work is widely varied, involving analyzing and evaluating many complex and significant variables.

  • Must be able to monitor and assess operations, workload, projects, and staff performance.

  • Must be able to research, compile and analyze data, and then present findings to management in an acceptable format.

  • Must exhibit attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.

  • Must be able to communicate and professionally present oneself.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, other Federal, State, and local governmental representatives, contractors, consultants, vendors, media, and the general public is essential.

  • Ability to read, interpret and understand schematics, blueprints, and mechanical drawings/renderings.

  • Ability to read, interpret and follow technical information, directives, manuals, memos, reports, and other work-related materials.
  • Ability to work under high demands, short time constraints, and the pressure of a fast-paced work environment.

  • Must obtain a water distribution license, wastewater collections certificate, and backflow certification within 2 years of employment. Must show progression throughout the 2-year to understand and follow written or verbal instructions and/or directions.

  • Knowledge of utility mechanics, repair, installation, and maintenance.

  • Thorough knowledge of electrical safety, trench safety, and workplace safety practices and procedures, including but not limited to, lockout/tagout.

Other Requirements:


  • Must possess a Valid Florida Class E driver's license. Must obtain Class B CDL driver's license within two years of employment.

  • Must pass applicable pre-employment testing and background and credit checks.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
