Electrical Lineman

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs and assists in line work of a technical nature in the construction and maintenance of the city electrical distribution system and performs related work as required.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Works under the direct supervision of the Electrical Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Work with line voltage up to 7200 volts making connections, maintenance and necessary repairs

· Operate all equipment in electrical department

· Build transformer installations, and install street lights

· Troubleshoot and repair electric line problems

· Perform cut-offs, turn-ons/offs, and meter reading for utility billing purposes

· Inspects all departmental equipment and safety items; makes minor equipment repairs

· Assists in maintenance of city facilities

· Performs all other work assigned.

· Subject to twenty-four (24) hour call.

· Ability to deal effectively with the public and have a good working relationship with other employees

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Utility Truck, Bucket Truck, Digger Truck, Backhoe, Dump Truck, Chipper Truck, Chainsaw, Pole saw

Various hydraulic tools (crimpers, cutters, etc.)

Hand tools (wire strippers, drills, wire cutters, etc.)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Primarily and outside position, ability to perform work in all weather conditions will be mandatory in both daily and emergency conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to perform strenuous work in adverse conditions; fingers, hands, and arms dexterity; able to operate all equipment; hand-eye coordination; good hearing and vision; ability to lift 50 pounds and over; ability to climb in, on, and about equipment and vehicles, as well as in and out of trenches; ability to sit, stoop, bend, stand, push, pull, squat, walk, carry, and twist associated with respective field operations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent

Related job experience (Lineman experience preferred) or have a combination of experience and the proper certifications and/or trainings

Valid Class B CDL

Willingness to work around high voltage electricity

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

7 years of electrical distribution system experience
