What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Resource Specialist position at City of Hampton?
The purpose of the class is to interview and assess parents during the prenatal period, and parents of young children, infant through age 3 years, using specifically designed tools to identify characteristics/family stressors.

- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Human Services or a closely related field of study. Some customer service experience in the human services field.
- Experience in working with or providing service to children and families.
- Knowledge of infant and child development.
- Ability to: communicate effectively both orally and in writing; enter information into a computer system with proficiency; work independently with little supervision while exercising good judgment; perform community outreach activities and home visitations; interact effectively with others/acceptance of individual differences; foster effective public relations and work with culturally diverse population; prepare reports.
- Knowledge of computer operations
- Infant Mental Health Endorsement preferred.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to an offer of employment or promotion.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during city emergency situations, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
