The Parks Team Leader position provides an opportunity to directly impact the local community by leading a team of parks front-line staff to provide consistent quality maintenance of the appearance of City parks, school grounds, roadways, public grounds and related facilities. Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or successful completion of the GED.
- Requires a minimum of three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in landscaping and grounds keeping including experience in removing, maintaining, pruning and climbing trees.
- Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Arboricultural Chemistry, Business or a related field is preferred.
- Must obtain a Registered Technician Pesticide License within six (6) months of employment.
- Must possess and maintain a Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 180 days of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements
- Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
- Requires shift work to include evenings, weekends, and holidays and on-call emergency standby on a rotating basis.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during city emergency situations, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
