DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists walk in and telephone customers with building and trade applications. Assist walk in and customers with troubleshooting Projectdox and iPermit issues. Answer customer questions through iChat. Use effective problem-solving techniques to provide general information and customer assistance for quality service. Answer all incoming calls to section and provide information on permits or inspections in a timely and courteous manner. Accurately uses ILMS software to setup and record project data, sales orders and contractor information. Ensures customers waiting in Q-Flow are served in a timely manner. Collects section records such as insurance, bond registration, correspondence, and office updates. Explain processes and procedures thoroughly to assist customer transactions in English and/or Spanish. Communicate with other sections as applicable. Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable most of the time with occasional periods of stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials of up to 10 pounds. In the Houston Permitting Center, the position may require lifting of moderately heavy items, such as plans (up to 40 pounds).

This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two years of experience as a Permit Technician Aide or in customer service are required.

An Associate degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None

PREFERENCES

Preference may be given to applicants with knowledge of the building permitting processes and the use of the ILMS (Integrated Land Management System).

Preference may be given to applicants that are bilingual in Spanish.
Preference may be given to applicants with knowledge of the following systems: iPermits, PDox
Preference may be given to applicants with knowledge in researching using GIMS, HCAD and HAS.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **

GENERAL INFORMATION

However, the department may administer a skills assessment evaluation.

SAFETY IMPACT POSITION: No
If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.

Pay Grade 15
