The Department Services Aide - Transportation Dispatcher position dispatches transportation services for older adults.

Public Employee Disaster Service Worker: In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, all Huntington Beach city employees are required to perform assigned disaster service worker duties in the event of an emergency or a disaster.
The current vacancy is in the Senior Center in Central Park. Incumbent must be available to work a varied work schedule, including occasional weekends and holidays.

This is a Non-Perm, Part-Time position.
Temporary/part-time employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 – June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice. Further restrictions apply to CalPERS retired annuitants. This is a Part-Time position.

- Delivers demand responsive transportation services to ensure timely, efficient and safe customer service.
- Dispatches staff and volunteer drivers who transport seniors to medical and non-medical appointments.
- Assists the Transportation Coordinator in maintaining the database of senior clients; training volunteers and new employees; and providing clerical and telephone support
- Promotes the observation of safe work practices at all times.
- Investigates complaints, and completes necessary reports.
- Performs related duties as assigned including record keeping, preparing periodic reports, scheduling for special events and assisting in outreach efforts.
- Some driving in a city vehicle may be required.

Education and Experience:
The ideal candidate will have:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with experience and/or education in Social/Human services, Sociology, Gerontology or other behavioral sciences.
- Two years of experience working with older adults.
- Fluency in Spanish, preferred.
CPR/First Aid Certificates must be obtained within three months of appointment.
