Position Summary

Position Responsibilities
- Conduct mediations in CHINS cases, engaging families, attorneys, DCS case managers, guardians ad litem, and other parties
- Facilitate agreements that prioritize the safety, permanency, and well-being of children while respecting the interests of all stakeholders.
- Draft mediation summaries, agreements, and other case documentation in compliance with court standards.
- Provide procedural guidance to participants, maintaining neutrality and avoiding legal advice.
- Collaborate with judicial officers, DCS representatives, CASA/GALs, and service providers to support case progression.
- Mediate other trial court matters as assigned.
- Track outcomes and prepare reports, case notes, and mediation statistics as required by the ADR program.
- Stay up to date with developments in juvenile and family law, trauma-informed mediation practices, and court ADR protocols.
- Support and mentor newer mediators or ADR interns if applicable.
- Participate in ADR training sessions, professional development, and court-sponsored initiatives.
- Assists with other duties and responsibilities as needed.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in Indiana, in good standing.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of legal experience, with emphasis on juvenile, child welfare, and family law.
- Completion of a certified mediation training program (e.g., 40-hour basic mediation course) and proof of mediator registration.
- Demonstrated experience mediating court-involved cases, preferably involving families or children.
- Strong facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
- Compassionate, trauma-informed approach to working with families and children.
- Ability to remain neutral, composed, and culturally responsive in emotionally charged situations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Commitment to child-centered and family-focused outcomes.
